UK Football

Kentucky hosts one of the most anticipated games at Kroger Field in recent memory Saturday with the No. 20 Florida Gators coming to Lexington in a matchup that will put the winner in the driver's seat in the SEC East race. The Wildcats have a chance to start a season 4-0 for the first time since 2008 and 2-0 in SEC play for the first time since the 1977 team went undefeated in conference games. The Cats now are 10-3 over their past 13 regular season games, including road wins this season at South Carolina and Southern Miss. Despite allowing a touchdown on the first play of the game at South Carolina the Cats responded with a comprehensive effort in last week's 23-13 win in front of a sold out crowd in Columbia. Gametime is set for 7:30 PM and the game can be heard Live on the UK Sports Network (WSIP 98.9 FM) pre-game at 6 PM. The SEC Network will have the game Live on TV.

Cincinnati Reds

Scott Schebler hit his first career grand slam, and the Cincinnati Reds ended their 14-game losing streak against the New York Mets with a 14-4 victory Tuesday night. The Reds hadn't beaten the Mets since Sept. 6, 2014. They'd dropped their last eight to New York at Great American Ball Park, where the Mets are 30-16 all-time - the best winning percentage by any NL team, including the Reds. Cincinnati put it away with a seven-run eighth inning that featured Adam Duvall's three-run homer. Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki made his second appearance on the mound this season and induced a double-play grounder. Reds rookie Sal Romano (4-5) made his third straight solid start, allowing three runs and six hits in six innings. Game 2 of this 3 game series is set for Tonight at GABP in Cincinnati. Gametime is set for 7:10 PM and available on AM 600 WKYH in Paintsville.

UK Football

A piece of bad news from Saturday’s UK Football scrimmage, as Senior Wide Receiver Dorian Baker sustained a “substantial” ankle injury. An update on his status will follow later this week, but Baker could miss the entire 2017 season. Baker becomes the 2nd major injury for a projected UK starter, as Sr. Cole Mosier was lost to a knee injury last week.

Cincinnati Reds

Tyler Flowers' grand slam broke open a close game in Atlanta's six-run fifth inning, Sean Newcomb earned his first home win and the Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 on Sunday. Newcomb (2-7) allowed five hits in five scoreless innings for his first victory since June 27 at San Diego. The rookie left-hander improved to 1-6 in eight starts at SunTrust Park. The Braves led 2-0 before the big fifth against Reds reliever Drew Storen. Atlanta scored four runs in the inning before Storen got his first out. Brandon Phillips singled and moved to third on Freddie Freeman's ground-rule double. An intentional walk to Nick Markakis loaded the bases before Flowers' homer to left field. Phillips and Freeman each had three hits for Atlanta. The Reds were denied their first series sweep in Atlanta since 2009. Storen gave up six runs while getting only two outs. The Reds have Today off before opening up a 3 game series at Home vs. the Chicago Cubs.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals made cuts Sunday, following their 30-12 loss to Kansas City Saturday night. The team released the names of three players that were released or waived, including former Kentucky running back, Boom Williams. Williams signed a free-agent contract with the Bengals in April after going undrafted. Boom led UK in rushing in each of his three seasons as a Wildcat and ended his Kentucky career with his best season to date with 1,170 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 2016.
